I have finally got my act together and written another essay for my main website. Actually, I didn't write an essay from scratch, but repeated the trick I did with Adam and Eve: a thought experiment; i.e., lifted something out of a longer paper because it didn't really fit. It's called The Diffidence Principle as a kind of whimsical reference to Hobbes and Rawls. You can get the PDF verison here and a rather ugly HTML version here (I couldn't be bothered to mess around with HTML/CSS, so just used latex2html to convert it).

To celebrate, I've paid Spaceports to get rid of those annoying banner ads.

And the ads are still there. :-(

That's funny, the URL works for me. Try going through the main page: neptune.spaceports.com/~words/philosophyessays.html (http://neptune.spaceports.com/~words/philosophyessays.html).

I imagine the banners will go when they get round to processing my credit card transaction.

It's really funny, the PDF link from LJ *still* doesn't work. But the ads are finally gone. :-) However, on entering your site IE asks me if I want to install a support for special characters in European languages (1.8MB). That's really funny, since my Win98 already supports Czech, English and French, which are European languages. *lol

I've read the whole paper. :-P Interesting examples, like the one with the sleepless. I haven't heard of it before.
