After a lethargic Saturday, I decided to adopt the Aristotelean view that happiness comes from exercising virtue and
  1. did some t'ai chi, a few kicking drills and a lot of stretching;
  2. vacuumed, dusted and tidied;
  3. read student essays
  4. edited a paper I'm thinking of sending to Metaphilosophy (one of the coolest philosophy journals around, if you're into that kind of thing);
  5. learnt XHTML (see previous post);
  6. cooked Chinese foodfor my in-laws (who didn't turn up in the end, but what the hell, I now have enough stir-fry to last me three days);
  7. drank fruit-juice mixes I juiced myself, rather than my normal rakı or beer.

I shall now go and sleep the sleep of the just.

Raki!

I just wanted to introduce myself. I used to teach English in Turkey-- specifically in Erzurum. This was a while back. I only stayed for two years.

I had enough freetime though to travel and often feel homesick my favorite haunts, especially Istanbul.

Hope you are well!!

Thanks for the good wishes. How on earth did you wind up in Erzurum?

A long and wild story. I taught at Ataturk University. Can't say that it was a great job, and it was in many ways a very rough area, but I managed to have many adventures.

Did you know Pierre Flener by any chance? I don't know how long you have taught at Bilkent, so he might have been before your time. He taught there for about five years.

I remember a Pierre a few years back, but I don't remember his last name. Computer scientist - nice guy. I bought his stereo when he left.

After a lethargic Saturday... and Sunday... I'm too tired/bored/cranky to bother being virtuous! I'll exercise virtue tomorrow if I can. ;)

What exactly is metaphilosophy? A study?

It's a journal for general philosophy, papers that don't wuite fit into the specialised branches of philosophy covered in other journals, and for writing about the nature of philsophy itself (hence the title - kind of "the philosophy of philosophy").

Hmmm. I wonder if there's a MetaMedicine.
