I feel like death warmed up after a stressful day followed by a night of very broken sleep. My father-in-law had a mild heart attack yesterday and we took him to hospital, where he is being held for a few days operation before they operate (two of the veins aren't working). The problem with a member of this family going to hospital is that various other members who hate each others' guts turn up and start verbal fights.

We then spent the night at my mother-in-law's. I don't like sleeping in other people's houses any more (though I used to do it all the time when I was young) and that is also one of the last places I would choose to stay, even though this time mother-in-law was well-behaved and an excellent host.

Anyway, I'm now in the office trying to get my shit together. I'm helped by the fact the I have recently discovered the joys of Internet radio (I didn't listen to it before, because my home machine only has a 56K modem and my office machine didn't have a soundcard until recently). I've just found a station called Soukous Radio (Kanda Bongo Man, Les 4 Seasons, Jocelyne Labille etc.) which is just what my tired brain needs.

Sorry to hear about your 'beau père'...

... and all that peu de temps after your own Dad 'popped his cloggs'. Strength t'ya bro'. I just found out my old man (big mean bastard) died some time ago. It's 13 years since I exchanged a word with him (he abused me & my Mum), and strangely, despite realising that I'm now (at 48 yrs) an 'orphan', I don't feel the slightest regret about him, nor the least curiosity about how exactly it came about. He'd been cardiac since I was about 15, so I don't have much doubt either. I must try to contact his wife, to show solidarity with her, as I was/am VERY fond of her. The problem is, I must not let her see I'm doing an 'irish jig' in my joy that the old cunt has finally left us all tranquille. Well, not 'us all'; as you may have gathered, I'm enrolled chez a phychiatrist (a very pretty corean one) to try to reduce the visibility of the scars he left me with. (My Mum's dead, 1993 in a car accident in South Africa. Apparently an impala ran in the road, and she just loved those 'pretty little things', she avoided it and drove into a ravine - bless her.) I hope your wife's old man gets himself sorted before his brothers and cousins come to fisticuffs. Oh, after even! I hope he gets out with enough time to meet his grandchildren (no imperative meant, or implied).

* I give you brotherly kiss *

Sağol!

Actually it's the female members of the family who do most of the fighting.

i always download the player at spinner.com whenever I come to this net-cafe. It just takes a few seconds and there's tons of stations.

Unfortunately there's only a Windows version, so it's not much use for me. I'm using RealPlayer at the moment, though I'm experimenting with Xine.
