This article explains how the Department of Homeland Security changed from Windows 2000 to Linux. What surprised me was that an organisation set up to keep tracks on dissidents guard against terrorism would have even considered having servers running something as crackable as Windows 2000.

Looking at replies to the post where I found that article, I learn that Microsoft themselves had been hit hard by the Slammer worm. The funny thing is that this could only have happened because they didn't apply the patch they issued themselves to fix the vulnerability that slammer exploits.
