An odd job day on the computer. Having got totally fed up with email.com's slow, ad-ridden webmail service, I found a new mail service (www.softhome.net) for Nalan which actaully does free pop3 accounts (you have to agree to be sent occasional advertisements, but what the hell, we all have to put up with spam, so it's a small price to pay). Did some donkey work on the department's website, then just for fun installed a script that outputs randomly-selected text from a file of your choice to do a kind of "quote for the day" thing. Unfortunately although the script works fine, I can't get the SSI request to work right in my page, so at the moment the page says "Quote for the day" then gives you nothing. If anyone asks, I'll say it's being Witgensteinian and "passing over it in silence". I also used some of the photos I'd scanned for the site to put cute user pictures on the login screen for the office Linux machine.
I'm now continuing my efforts to compile vegastrike from source. Each time I get a little further, then the configure script finds another missing library or header file. Currently downloading the CVS of OpenAL in response to the latest error message.
