Sometimes having obscure tastes can be an advantage. I was killing time at the supermarket today and found the following in the bargain bin at the equivalent of $3 a piece.

• King Crimson: Starless and Bible Black (my favourite KC album, with the possible exception of Discipline)
• Michael Nyman: The Suit and the Photograph
• Stravinsky: The Rite of Spring and The Firebird (and not one of those crappy bargain classics releases from some orchestra you've never heard of - this is the CSO with Seiji Ozawa)
• an Alice Coltrane compilation
• Milt Jackson and John Coltrane: Bags and Trane (I've been wanting that album for so long!)

such a deal! coincidentally, I just recently restocked my KC collection (bought CDs to replace the old vinyl). lovely to hear it all again with renewed clarity. Starless is probably my favourite too, though it is hard to choose just one.

Hmmm .. your mention of Stravinsky reminds me of a Zappa tune I have not thought of in quite awhile - "In A Gadda Stravinsky." FZ certainly had some interesting ideas.

I don't know that track, but I remember the line in "Titties and Beer" where the motorcycle man asks the Devil what the only two things he's interested in are:
"Hmmm, maybe Stravinsky and Boulez?"
