Saturday, January 8th, 2011 03:08 pmTranslation is a great way to improve your vocabulary. In recent days, thanks to going first to Seslisözlük and then to the Oxford English Dictionary, I have learned the English words "caserne" ("One of a series of small (temporary) buildings between the ramparts and houses of a fortified town for the accommodation of troops") and "curvet" ("A leap of a horse in which the fore-legs are raised together and equally advanced, and the hind-legs raised with a spring before the fore-legs reach the ground"). I have also learned that "pendent" can be a legal as well as a grammatical term, though making it the title of a TV series seems to be taking obscurity to new heights.
