Seomthing I wrote on the board to try and explain the diffence between religion, mysticism and philosophy:

Religion: God tells us x.
Mysticism: I had a vision of x.
Philosophy: p & q => x.

um...

The philosophy line seems to me more like logic. Ugh! .-)

Well logic is pretty fundamental to most philosophy, whether or not it's formalised like this. There are exceptions, of course, but I was trying in this class to emphasise the differences between a philosophical approach and a mystical approach. Of course many philosophers are also mystics and vice versa (to give an example of how I'd try and make a distinction, I'd say that Julian of Norwich was a mystic, while Hildegard of Bingen was a mystic and philosopher).
