Putting my computer to good use

I have renewed my account at seti@home and signed up for climateprediction.net, so now I don't have to feel guilty about leaving my computer on all the time.

I got a fund-raising letter from SETI last week ... looked for / could not find. Sounds like they've got a new array. Oh right, that's it, they can now analyze 7 channels at once or something.

Back in Hali I snuck into one of the computer labs late at night and installed it on all the machines. Turns out the lab tech was wise to me but turned a blind eye. *grin*

Yes, I kind of enjoyed the irony.

On the other hand, while it is obviously good that the more aware geeks are turning off their "vampire devices", I wonder what the real environmental impact of leaving your computer on overnight is compared to, say, taking a drive in your car.
