Today, I went to buy bread, beer, and paper for my printer. I didn't mind paying for the bread or the beer, but somehow it irritates me to have to pay for paper. I guess deep down, I feel that paper should be free, like air or software.

Which would encourage people to waste even more of it.

Yes, but people work to produce a lot of things that are free.

Not to enter the TMI zone...

... but I resent having to pay for "feminine products."

I at least think I should be allowed to write them off the income tax.

Guess I could learn to roll my own and save money, eh?

For a long time it was a bone of contention in the UK that razor blades were exempted from VAT but sanitary towels and tampons weren't. I don't know if they ever sorted it out.

Don't you work at a university ?
Can't you "aquire" some paper from work ?

Even personal projects can somehow be justified for your university work

Normally I don't think anyone would object to my taking a few leaves from the office. Problem is, we're out of paper in the office too!

Paper is free, like software. You can write anything you like on it, and it's yours.

Yes, but I don't want free as in speech, I want free as in beer!

You can have free beer any time, but you have to get the next round.

I want free education.
