It was my invention, but the thread was provoked by a translation of Crime and Punishment which has one of the characters say "What's up?" Actually, I don't object much to that particular example (considering that some of the characters are, like, young n'shit), but like dude, we gotta show respec to da classics, y'no.

Somewhere I have comic book version of "Crime and Punishment." My deepest disappointment in it is that it lacks big "Batman"-like verbs coming at me during crucial action. You know, verbs like...

I read a great comic-book, detective-story version of The Wasteland. If I recall correctly, the opening line was "The name's Marlowe. Chris Marlowe."
