The Pianist

Just saw The Pianist. Really hated it. Not sure why.

I really loved it. I think in part because unlike a lot of Holocaust films, it didn't progress from "Nazis arrive" to "everyone starving in a camp" in ten minutes of screen time. I found the way the Szpilmans tried to normalize the unbearable to be really chilling, but completely understandable. I also liked that Szpilman wasn't an overt hero (except that not killing oneself during those times is probably its own brand of heroism).

Oh, and Adrien Brody is just hot. Beaten, starving, dirty...doesn't matter. In fact, it makes him all the hotter!
