Strange; but, true!

The following sentences are taken from a guide to punctuation, where they appear as correct usage.

"He loves studying; He can't get enough of school."

"I took a holiday and played golf, which I love; read a lot, which I needed to do; and slept late; which I hadn't done for quite a while."

For some reason, that last example makes me cringe.

Even if the punctuation were correct (i.e. no semi-colon before "which"), it's a terribly contrived example.

Even if they were correct, they'd get an awk marginalium from me.

"You may have the syntax right (or not) but you need a better way to express this thought. Perhaps a whole paragraph for the latter one, and a conjunction or a period for the former.

Also consider whether your reader really needs all this information."
