I must be nuts - I am snowed under with work this semester, but when my phone rang late last night, and a producer I'd done a bit of TV work for in the past asked me if I could come down and read some fairy stories, I said "Sure, sounds like fun." There again, it'll probably only take an afternoon, and it probably will be fun. I wonder what they'll ask me to read? I fancy an uncensored reading of the original Brothers Grimm. "And then, children, they heated iron boots until they were red hot, and made the wicked queen dance in them until she died." This would give me the opportunity to put "Give children nightmares" in the "Skills" section of my CV.

I love the uncensored tales, so sadistic.

But you know, as a child I had some fairly unabridged versions, "and then they put the wicked queen in a barrel full of spikes and rolled her down the hill into the river", that sort of thing, and I didn't flinch. She deserved it for trying to burn the heroine alive. Children are vengeful creatures, at least, I know I was.

I think you have been allowed to do that since that Hallowe'en when you answered the door with the blood stained apron and the meat cleaver.

Heh, that was fun. There were no bloodstains involved though, as I was a vegetarian at the time.

I have a complete set of Grimm's Fairy Tales. I used to love reading them when I was a young'un. Then, recently, like a few years ago, I decided to read them again and was amazed by the bloodthirstyness of every single story!!! As a kid it didn't even register to me that it was horrid to be rolled in a spikey barrell or dance in hot iron boots or whatever, but in my old age it affected me a lot more. Heh.
