I've noticed that a couple of my female friends' user icons feature (not real) facial blood. Any ideas why? I've never seen a man with a bloody nose in his user icon.
Ominous, that is, if taken as somehow representative of zeitgeist.
By any chance, are you familiar with the Tibetan Buddhist doctrine of "Dark Age"? It's all tied up with the Kalachakra teachings ... optimistic, but only in a very deep way; not at all, immediately.

What was funny was that I actually had a slightly bloody nose myself when I was writing that. Not that I've been in any punch-ups - it just decided to start bleeding.
Barring simple preference, some subconsious reasons include the sensual appeal of vampirism, the prevalence/affect of menstruation in her lifestyle, traditional concepts of lifeblood and supernatural aspects of blood as a carrier of life/history/information.
Are you responsive to Jungian thought?
