I've finished my Matrix paper, though I may do a little editing after a few days, when I can look at it a bit more objectively. By popular request (well, two people) it is available in PDF format here.
It might be too late for this, but I'd send an inquiry anyway:
Call For Papers The Matrix Film Trilogy and Associated Media Representations
Having received promising preliminary interest from a number of publishers, this is a CFP (Call For Papers) for chapter ideas for an edited volume on the trilogy of Matrix films and other associated media representations, including games and anime.
Please respond as soon as possible, as I have scheduled meetings with publishers in mid-April 2003 and must have a preliminary proposal prior to this.
Scope:
A broadly interdisciplinary volume on the films of The Matrix trilogy aimed at a similarly broad audience including undergraduates, graduate students, academics and interested "civilians" in the areas of (not inclusive) anthropology, sociology, communications, English, history, philosophy, cultural studies, and related disciplines. This work intends to be accessible to a broad readership while maintaining an intellectual rigor. It also will differentiate itself from previous publications on this topic as much as possible.
Possible topics include, but are by no means limited to:
-cultural studies -mythological structure -gender -religion -Modernism and postmodernism -"race" -pastiche and style -monomythic attributes
And, indeed, any number of other possible topics.
TIME FRAME:
To be in print in a timely fashion for the market, a final draft would need to be in at about the same time as the final film is released - end of November, 2003. Please keep this in mind in your willingness to contribute. It is a hope that early access to the final film will be granted.
Publication could be as early as April 2004.
Page Length: 20-30 pages, including notes. Style yet to be determined, but will based on final publisher's contract. Most likely MLA.
Primary Editor: Matthew Kapell, University of Michigan-Dearborn, Anthropology, Women's Studies, and American Studies. Secondary Editors are currently "in talks", and hopefully will be announced shortly.
Please indicate interest by e-mailing Kapell at:
Kapellm@umd.umich.edu
As Soon As Possible. Please indicate topic area in general terms (3-5 sentences).
Many thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Thanks - I just mailed them. If it's too late, what the hell - there are bound to be a host of journals wanting papers for when Revolutions comes out. After all, which journal would you pick up, Journal of Cognitive Stylistics: Special edition - Augustan Poetry or Journal of Semiotic Rhetoric: Special edition - The Matrix?
