I'm watching the Eurovision song contest, and can't believe that Germany's entry has the line "Let's get happy, let's be gay." Is it a genuine slip, have they been reading too much Nietzsche, or are they trying to pinch some of Tatu's vote?

hahahahah...!!! maybe they're trying to be universal or something. by the way, i think tatu are just faking it.

I haven't watched Eurovision in years, but I was disappointed to find out recently that most songs are now in English. Now, what's the point of that (okay, the fact that the performers want to be international divas aside)? Where has the multivocality gone?

I watched it obsessively as a kid in the 1980s. Every year I would recite quite a few of the songs by heart (or rather I would make up approximations of the lyrics)--yeah, I was a weird kid!

Could be - do you remember that singer in Bir Demet Tiyatro who pretended to be a transexual?

I kept yelling "sing in your own bloody language", especially at the one who mangled English. At least Sertab Erener managed some passable diction, though I'd still have preferred it if she'd sung in Turkish. Actually, although I was pleased she won, that really wasn't one of her better songs, but what the hell, it's Eurovision, continent-wide celebration of cliche.

I was surprised that Tatu sang in Russian, given that they'd done so well by singing in English. They were cute, but definitely not on form.

Note that the French did not sing in English; neither did they give their verdict in that language.

Aww, Sertab Erener (sang and) won? That's awesome! She has a beautiful voice.

The French rock my world. (plus, I love that whole "Allemagne un point. Belgique deux points. etc." thing)

As I said in a later post, by Sertab standards, it sucks, but then this is Eurovision - Sertab classics like Lal wouldn't have got votes. In any case, the culprit is Demir Demirkan, who aside from having a silly name was responsible for breaking up one of Turkey's best rock groups and substituting awful songs like "Şarkı devaam, adıyööör" (presumably a mistaken tribute to The Song Remains the Same). In the immortal words of Frank Zappa, "Shut and play your guitar".

Alas, I don't have things to say very often.

Michalis does have a gorgeous voice. Ironically, he performed in Eurovision in 1997 or 1998! His song was pretty mediocre (he has evolved so much since then; then again he was only 19 or so at the time), but the most embarrassing part was that he was wearing blue contacts--what was he thinking!

Hey, you take whatever votes you can get.

Has Eurovision gotten SOOO bad that it's starting to get counter-culture gay hipness status now? Scary.

And no, you still can't join the EU.

hahah...demir demirkan always had the silliest songs. and not only that, he was very annoying, too. i think even petek dincoz is better than him, i'm serious ! Sertab was an idiot to leave Levent Yuksel for a guy like that.
La'l wouldn't have got any votes, would it ? *sigh* just imagine how it would be if Sertab had actually sung from that album's classics and won, i would have been SO proud.
La'l is so special to me. i can't understand why that woman changed so much after that album and turned into this spoiled creature who sings only for the sake of showing off her voice.
ok, it's not that bad; but still, i've listened to all her albums and La'l is still the most precious in my opinion.

what does "kryfo fili" mean ?

what does "kryfo fili" mean ?

"Secret friend".

"secret kiss," actually.

the stress is on the final "i" (filEE). Also, in order to mean "friend" it would require adjective-noun gender agreement (i.e. "kryfi fili")
