you keep your dream/fantasy life pathetically separated from your everyday life .. you suscribe to the practical thought system which just does not cut it for you. you dream too much of superheroes,, have you ever watched Unbreakable? the invention of the superhero came to be because in certain people there is found a highly developed, nay superhuman, ability of body or mind. you force resignation on yourself, i can see the insanity bubbling underneath your fascismile of caregiver. you've amputated a part of yourself. the ability to dream of what could be. why? complacent. you're trying to be complacent. satisfied. you're trying to conform. you want to be protected. and you spray every little code of behavior in thought and action that your Academia pressures you to accept. that's why i called you a televangelist. "with this tremendous vociferation may i reach the realm of god". i can't tell you anymore. i despise moderates. stop bothering me.

Stuff like this makes it all worthwhile!

I responded to the post, but I'm wondering if I should continue, especially since
(a) it's in someone else's journal, and it's not very polite to use another person's journal as a forum for verbal slugfests;
(b) sparring with teenage Nietzsche-wannabes is like shooting fish in a barrel.

Well since mastershaman has obviously seen enough of my journal to work out where I'm living, I hope he will rise to the bait. I know it's beneath me, but I've had a rough couple of weeks, and I really feel like relaxing by dissecting a little übermensch.

On a slightly more serious note, one reason I am generally careful to avoid upsetting people noline, but let myself rip on lumpen-Nietzscheans and Ayn Rand fans is that I want to spell out the message "Boys and girls, this is a bad way to go, mmmmkay." I suppose this is the "televangelism" that mastershaman is grinding his milk teeth about, but what the hell - it's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it.

I still maintain that there is nothing wrong with being fond of Nietzsche (and Ayn Rand, I suppose) so long as you keep in mind just how funny they are. (Says the girl who sleeps clutching a Nietzsche plushie.)

Actually, it's the way he looks so much like Groucho Marx. Mostly the eyebrows. I make him do a little dance and then exclaim, "I am the ubermensch! So, viaduct? Why not a chicken?"

I'm a little curious about Nietzsche, but not very impressed with the Ayn Rand objectivism cult. So what's your beef with the Nietzschster? :)

Oh, go ahead. Rip the youngens apart. If they can't take a little constructive criticism on the 'net, how will they ever learn to IRL! >:] And if it helps your blood pressure in the meantime, all the better, eh? ;)

I think of Nietzsche as flawed genius. He had some impressive insights, but he was peronally too screwed up to develop them. My beef is with the people I call "lumpen-Nietzscheans", who read a bit of Nietzsche without thinking too hard about it, and say "Yes! I am the Superman! I am different from all you snivelling weaklings, because I stand outside the herd and am dark and gloomy. I have Deep Thoughts, and because of that I don't need to care about you wretched hypocrites and your stinking, miserable lives." It's pardonable up to the age of eighteen, but after that, it's just irritating.

Oh geez, that's what most people think after reading Nietzsche?? I've only read a little but haven't formed any strong opinion yet (except that he seemed like a woman-hater). Hmmmm, no wonder a few people who follow a rather *dark* philosophy are attracted to his work. (Has there ever been a Perfect Genius, in your philosophical opinion?)
