So I'm a nice-looking girl of indeterminate ethnic origin, which I suppose suits me in a way.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Should I be pleased that race is now such a minor issue that it can be the subject of personality quizzes? Well, I would be if it were, but I suspect it ain't so. Am I being a sourpuss lefty about this? Probably. I am normally notorious for offending people's political sensibilities, so the fact that I'm reacting here probably means I'm over-reacting. When I sober up, I may design my own "which race are you?" quiz, but it will probably have answrs like "Sumerian" or "Gipton dwarf".

AZN is an abbreviation for Asian. (A 'net thing, I guess.)

Too much wine with dinner? Headache: What about "a hair 'o the dog that bit ya?" Or try a Bloody Mary drink in the morning... or take--what is it--a bunch of B vitamins tonight? (Lightweight drinker here; hardly ever do it so don't suffer hangovers.) Or just drink a LOT of water!! I think much of the hangover is probably due to dehydration, from what I've heard.

Should have guessed that one. I was trying to figure it out as an acronym.

In the UK, "Asian" generally means "South Asian", not "East Asian". Come to think of it, since I've been living in Asia for 13 years now, am I a naturalised Asian?

BTW, that lady does look a little like an idealised female Solri. Maybe she's my anima ;-)

That lady barely looks Asian at all to me. I didn't even get it when my friend posted her results; had to read it thru and look again. Okay, and now we all know what your *type* is! :)

Oh, and yes, I think it's a silly, weird quiz (which is why I put it behind a cut in my journal). Maybe race IS getting to be a non-issue in some ways. We can hope anyway. (best case scenario) They certainly didn't list very many different races; I can see how it might make some people say "hmmmmm" but there are so many quizzes around here that differentiate language, countries, and a hundred other things that otherwise *separate* people. That's kinda the point of a quiz like that, though.

The more I think about it the more confused I am about race. Is race merely skin colour? Or Nose Shape? Or Height? Or Eye Colour? or Ear Size? I am of the opinion that race only exists in the eyes of men.

i am interested in seeing what the other answers are.

Believe it or not, there are only four: Sugar White, Black & Beautiful, AZN, and Latin Princess.

Good questions. I have Irish, English, Welsh, French, German, a little Native American and apparently (my aunt found after doing a genealogy search) also some "Creole" from back during the Civil War. So just what *race* does that make me, even though I look basically "Caucasian"?

Maybe race does only exist in the eyes of men ... and women. Maybe it would be better to answer the question "what race are you?" with the term 'Human'.

Genetically, race doesn't seem to exist - it's simply the names we assign to a bunch of different phenotypes. As you said, it "only exists in the eyes of men". This doesn't mean, of course, that the phenotypes aren't consistent from generation to generation.

"Gipton dwarf" is/was a term to describe people from an area in Leeds of that name, who were notoriously short (and tended to share dwarves' pleasure in a good fight, as well). The neighbourhood was incredibly inbred, since no one ever moved there by choice, and it was hard to get out - putting a Gipton address on a job application form was equivalent to saying "If you employ me, I'll steal from the company and start fights with my co-workers."

There's an aspect of flattery in all of them. My ideal - and believable - response would be :

"You are a piece of muticoloured slime of indeterminate provenance. Try to put yourself somewhere where nobody will step in you and slip, injuring themselves."
