And they say Linux is difficult!
Sunday, April 27th, 2003 01:03 amA while back I tried installing a few game demos and Windows kept locking up, so I thought, "Oh, it's that reformat-reinstall time again." I finally got round to it today. Half a dozen failed attempts at installing later, I'm wondering who these people are who say Linux is difficult. I'm back in Linux (obviously) and FTPing /mnt/windows/win98 from my office computer, just to see if that will work any better. I know it is possible to install Windows on my computer because I've done it; I just can't remember the hoops I jumped through to do it the last time I installed.
In the time I spent trying to install Windows today, I could have fitted out an entire company with Linux.
Oh well, at least Win98 doesn't have the self-destruct feature of XP. I once had a panic call from a friend who had bought a computer with XP preinstalled but couldn't get on the Net to enter his activation key or whatever it's called, and was waiting for his hard disk to wipe itself. I got him out of the mess by bringing over my external modem - it turned out that the morons who'd sold him the computer forgot to install the winmodem drivers.
