After much anticipation I got to watch Trois Couleurs: Bleu tonight. I was planning to watch it then read the remaining essays I'm supposed to give back tomorrow, but it sent me into such delirium that all I could do was drink raki and read LJ.

I mean after seeing this, could you really sit down and correct grammar and typing mistakes?

It's such a beautiful film. I admire her character.
There are moments that are so rare that he was able to capture.

I want to see the whole trilogy; I haven't seen any of them yet but keep hearing about them! I loved The English Patient, and I have Chocolat on DVD. :) I've seen parts of The Unbearable Lightness of Being, but never the whole movie.

Yes, I suppose correcting student papers after that would be a big step downward.

Juliette Binoche is Divine

I liked her in The Unbearable Lightness of Being, but I didn't realize how GOOD she was until I saw her in Blue. The slightest changes in voice and posture and she goes from being the innocent insecure girl, coughing and tugging at her bra, to the uber-confident wife (widow) handing over the deed to her mansion. She's one of the few actors I've tracked down -- I think I've seen everything she's ever done, in English and in French. *swoon*

That's the thing about real actors. For example, Arnold Schwarzenegger is fun, but he's always Arnold, whereas a really good actor can be anyone. There is still an elusive quality of Binocherie that comes through in all herroles, but apart from that she's capable of being very different people (consider the difference between Bleu and Les Amants for example). Jodie Foster is an even more extreme example.

whew, what a wonder she is. I am sure you have seen The Unbearable Lightness of Being?

That was the first film I saw her in; I thought she was good, but was somewhat upstaged by Daniel Day Lewis (to be fair, it's very hard not to be upstaged by DDL). Bleu was the second, and the one that really made me go "wow!" Since then I've seen quite a few of her films, though there are some which I still haven't managed to see.
