robinturnerAaah, back on my own computer after three hours, most of a pack of cigarettes and the last coffee in the office consumed in a fruitless attempt to repair the aforementioned filesystem.
Ironically, there was a power cut twenty minutes ago, and my computer booted up again without a murmur - the only way I could tell it had been killed and resurrected was that hitting the up arrow in a terminal brought up not the last command I'd typed, but the antepenultimate one. Big deal. So apologies to Herr Reiser for my earlier spleen.
