I know I'm not good at names and faces (as my students will testify) but my lack of observational powers is starting to get embarrassing. I have seen The Monkey King, The Crow, Anna and the King and the "She" episode in Angel and only just found out that Bai Ling was in all of them. I could understand this lapse if she was really ordinary-looking, but she's absolutely gorgeous; in fact her performance as Kuan Yin was almost enough to turn me back into a Buddhist.

Maybe it's just that she's a good enough actress to be able to fool you into thinking she's someone different in every film. I'l let you judge for yourselves ...

A friend sent me the letter in the mail... forwarded it.. and today they had the diplomat who wrote it speaking on All Things Considered

I've seen some of those. She IS gorgeous, and a very good actress! Am I wrong or wasn't she also in Miss Saigon?

She might have been in a later stage version - I don't think she was in the original, but then I haven't seen it. More recently she's been in "Wild, Wild West" and "Red Corner", neither of which I've seen, though I hear the latter was good.

Wild, Wild West was really dumb. Red Corner..... was Richard Gere in that? I think maybe I saw it years ago.

ı heard the same of WWW - a film that didn't live up to the music video. Richard Gere was indeed in Red Corner, the film that had Bai Ling barred from her native China. I haven't seen it, but it received reasonable reviews.

I think I did see that years ago; can't remember much about it. I heard Joan Chen was also in trouble with China because of a movie she produced awhile back, "Xiu Xiu, the Sent-Down Girl." Brilliant film, though. :)
