Am I alone in finding Avril Lavigne's noveaux-punk posing unbearably contrived? The tunes are OK, but those videos ... "Oh we're so bad, we're real rebels, we trash the mall and dance on top of cars." That kind of thing was old even when punk was young. And that eye-makeup ... blech!

she's the female eminem. shrink-wrapped rebellion.

suit1: can we sell it?
suit2: of course. we can sell anything!
suit3: have you forgotten what the world was like before us?
suit1: good point. if we can sell people themselves...

at least she really is just being used. there's always alicia keys, jennifer lopez, and a whole host of other artless fodder.

a couple of things:

no, you are not alone. the absolute barrage of these teen mediocre no-talents is excruciating already.

yes, her makeup reeks. but she's as plain as shite. she has to do something so we can even remotely begin to detect her eyes.

i am wondering if this is a sign that we are now Old. because we hate the popular music; we disdain these teens with their skateboards and stupid hair and derivative "guitar" licks. i loathe it all. i'd rather listen to my husband passing gas.

though justin timberlake is STILL a little hottie.

No, you're not alone. I don't care for her either, except that her name has kind of a nice French sound to it (I think avril does mean 'april' in French).

Thankfully, I've so far avoided any exposure to said crack-barbie. I plan to keep it that way, as long as possible.

Oh, and add to that, I can't stand when singers place the ACC-ent on the wrong syl-LAB-le, such as: "...gets me frusTRATed." Madonna's done it, Lisa Loeb does it... Ick.

In the words of Bart Simpson, "We need another Vietnam to thin out their ranks a little."

Oh wait...

LOL. It's heartening to hear young people using the same patois that was current when I was a lad (and probably thinking it's new). It's a shame "square" has passed out of fashion, though.

Wasn't it Bart Simpson who said "Remember, no war is ever just, except for the American Revolution, World War Two, and the Star Wars trilogy." It was either him or Stan from South Park, I forget.

She is obscenely insipid, and the only excuse she has for that is her age. But her blandness I cannot forgive. She makes me wanna blow Canada off the face of the planet.

xo, anna

The tunes aren't even okay. "Sk8er Boi"? I know I'm officially older than the MTV demographic, but please.

I read an interview with her fairly recently in which she says she didn't start listening to music until about 3 years ago. WTF?!
