Vegastrike
Thursday, October 24th, 2002 04:18 pmI finally got my nVidia drivers working (tip - go through all the directories that look like they might contain X-related libraries, and rm anything that looks GL-related - on second thoughts, don't rm them, mv them, just in case they were innocent but important files). Now I can play Vegastrike, which is that Elite clone I've been waiting for for years. It doesn't have the cute wireframe graphics of the original Elite, but neither does it have those yucky solid plane graphics of most of the later versions and clones; in fact it's pretty beautiful. Check it out at vegastrike.sourceforge.net - there's even a Windows version.
I didn't get a chance to play much last night because I diverted myself by converting the documentation to LaTeX so I could get a nice printed version. When it comes to typesetting, I am definitely the anal-compulsive type.
