No, you didn't misread that; it really does say "to infinity and beyond". The worrying part is that this quotation is not from a space opera or fuzzy New Age manual, but a science programme on the BBC. Gah.

Wasn't that the catch phrase of the space man from Toy Story?

Don't know - not seen the film. But I suppose in that case it could have been a reference rather than an inanity.

Yep, it's the Buzz Lightyear catch phrase. He even got a spin off show. Obviously you need to brush up on pop culture references.

Yeah, I think that was from Toy Story.

But perhaps it was a reference to Cantor?

Or some kind of Zeno style thinking, as in, to get from point A to point B, you must go through an infinity of points, so anything beyond point B is infinity and beyond?

I think it's just that Buzz isn't the sharpest toy in the box.

Yah, but that's smart, cause the consumer groups always try to ban the sharpest toys in the box.

Hi there -- I've been reading your LJ for a while and just wanted to chime in on this one. In Toy Story, our protagonist Woody is an old-fashioned sort of toy, and when his owner gets the new, trendy Buzz Lightyear, Woody is jealous and considers Buzz ridiculously over the top. The audience can, if they're reflective, take Buzz's catchphrase as supporting evidence. (I recommend the movie!)
