I've posted before about research showing that, contrary to folk wisdom, money really does result in happiness (though with the common-sense caveat that there is a law of diminishing returns - usually anything after the first $1m is wasted). Money certainly made me happy today - after going into the city to pay some car tax arrears, I stopped off at the post office, as I'd received a slip that said someone called in my office while I wasn't there. It turned out that a Japanese publisher whose Internet research I'd participated in had mailed me 140 Euros. Let's hear it for the Japanese!

"Money isn't everything. But it is better than having one's health. After all, one can't walk into a butcher shop and say 'Look at this great tan. And you know, I never catch colds,' and expect the butcher to hand over his finest merchandise. Unless, of course, the butcher is an idiot."
