Creativity
Saturday, November 13th, 2004 01:49 pmWell not really, just a bad pun. I finally despaired of the sound card I'd ordered arriving, and installed the one they'd given me by mistake almost a year ago. For the technically minded, what I have is a Creative Audigy II ZS, and what I wanted was the Creative Audigy II ZS Pro, which is pretty much the same card, but sensibly has most of the I/O ports on the front rather than at the back. Using the lower-grade model just means that I have to do more fiddling round the back of my computer, and if I ever get round to buying any MIDI devices I'll have to persuade them to go through the joystick port at the back. Ergonomic, not.
But the great thing is that I now have a firewire connection, so I can capture video off my camcorder. It took a long time to work out how to do it, but now I'm happily going through all my home movies, editing them and burning them onto VCDs.
As a side effect, I am also spending far too much time rebooting into Windows to play Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness, which came as a freebie with the sound card. Work pressures mean that I hadn't done any game playing for several months, and I'd forgotten how much fun it can be. I was also impressed at how much hotter Lara Croft's got since the last Tomb Raider game I played (the second in the series, if I remember rightly). I know I'm being shamelessly manipulated here, but I just love the way she keeps on making little movements even when you're not pressing any keys. "Shall I climb this ladder? Hmm, why don't I wiggle my hips while I think about it, and hypnotise those sad guys who get off on animated characters?"
