I have no little who any of these are. I am pretty sure that Britney Spears (BS), Christina Aguilera (CA) and Jessica Simpson (JS) are locked in a heated battle for the same niche. Apparently there is boundless room at the top ... for now. Britney is smart enough to know that she can't stay there and must leap into other things in order to remain in the public eye.
People seem to be suffering from the impression that Britney Spears was hatched from an egg in 1995 or whatever. There is a long and painful history of very young girl/pop divas. I am sure it goes back much further and into much pain, but these 12 or 15 seem to fit my purposes. Britney is far in the lead.
Debbie Gibson and Tiffany had several third rate competitors, though I cannot recall their names. Stacy Q comes to mind. you could technically throw Madonna and Cyndi Lauper in there, but they weren't marketed in the same way. Tiffany "launched" at age 13. Debbie Gibson apparently could actually sing and play. They all have their niche. I find it amusing that "having red hair" is as valid a niche as "can actually play and sing".
I have already spent far too much time on this report. Why? Why? Why do I do these things?
Perhaps I should focus on the positive. There are many people on LJ into "cool" stuff as you define it, I am certain.
