Those golden moments
Tuesday, March 8th, 2011 11:28 pmThere are a few very rare times when you can combine the best parts of being a teacher and a system administrator. One such came today when a student mailed me his ENG 102 assignment instead of submitting it to my Moodle course the previous day as he should have done. Nothing unusual about that, of course - what tickled me was his excuse, which was that he hadn't been able to log into Moodle for three days. A quick look at the logs showed that he had logged in yesterday to submit an assignment for a different course. Possible explanations for this gaffe:
- He assumed that as an English teacher, I couldn't possibly know how computers work.
- He didn't know how computers work.
- He thought that when I said "we" were doing maintenance work on the servers, this was some figurative use of "we", as in "we may conclude" rather than the more obvious "me and some other guys".
