Back on the chain-gang
Tuesday, January 29th, 2008 10:25 pmAfter a week's holiday spent planning my next course and playing Guild Wars, work is piling up again. OK, I was working during my "holiday" as well, but that was on one thing, it was something I find interesting and I still had plenty of time left over to play computer games and even talk to my wife. I mean actually talk, rather than just go "Mmhm" at appropriate intervals. Now I have to finish my course book, enter a load of data into our student re-registration program (why oh why did I write that thing?), train my padawan apprentice to use the program, give Moodle workshops, proof-read some TV episodes, sort out the department e-mail list, meet someone who will be helping me write the Turkish-English dictionary that I have done almost no work on for almost a year, and proof-read a philosophy book. Of these, the one I feel most comfortable with is the last one, since it looks like an interesting book, and if I get it done in two weeks (so he can meet his publisher's deadline) the author will pay me handsomely. Actually, he's such a sweet guy that I might have offered to read his book for nothing (but not in two weeks!) but he offered the money up front and I'm not going to refuse.
