Party Games for Linguists
Sunday, October 7th, 2007 08:29 pmI noted an entry on
linguaphiles entitled "Another ‘Place the Diacritic’ Question", and thought Place the diacritic would be a great party game for linguists. It would be like pinning the tail on the donkey, except with a selection of words on the board and a selection of diacritic marks to pin on it. You get one point if you pin the diacritic over a vowel, and three bonus points if you can point to a language that has that word with the diacritic in that place. As a variant, Tolkien fans can play pinning the tehta on the tengwar.
I'm sure you could invent a great game called Dangling Participles, but I can't think of anything yet. The same goes for Parse the Parcel. Suggestions appreciated.
