Accessorising
Tuesday, November 14th, 2006 11:08 pmI have long been in the habit of wearing my wife's cast-offs; currently I have a sweater, a sweatshirt, two pairs of jeans, two tracksuit bottoms, an overcoat, and three waistcoats (two leather and one goat-hair, which gives me that Golden Horde look I so like). Now I'm moving on to acessories - not bangles and handbags but more practical stuff.
First was a bag (originally donated by
maggie_lucy) which is sturdily constructed and exactly the right size for my school stuff. Then I started borrowing her MP3 player. I'd always avoided getting one for myself, since the erratic behaviour of Turkish traffic and pedestrians means that you normally want your ears open as well as your eyes. However, after repeatedly filling her player with songs, the temptation to listen to them became too much, so now I use it on days when she's unlikely to get much MP3 time. Ah, life is so much better with background music! I've even started enjoying Guns'n'Roses - our musical tastes are generally similar, but we had a lot of arguments early on because she liked G&R, whom I despised, and I loved the Pet Shop Boys, who made her puke. (Hmm, maybe I'll try sneaking "Suburbia" onto the player.)
But the big one is the Raybans. Last Friday I had my eyes lasered and ended 38 years of spectacle dependency. This is wonderful, but I'll need to wear sunglasses on sunny days for a few months. I actually have a pair of sunglasses left over from the days before Ankara's dry, dusty climate made it impossible to wear contact lenses, but they're cheap ones that Nalan reckons do not do me justice, so it's Rayban to the rescue! Man, I love this woman!
