The Joy of JBL

When I was a musician, my friends were often surprised that I didn't have a decent music system in my home, just a portable cassette player and an old record player. I replied that if I got a slightly better system, I'd start paying attention to sound quality, then I'd want a better system again, then an even better one and so on, so I was going to wait until I had enough moeny to buy the system of my dreams.

Now I've pretty much done it: Technics amplifier and 5.1 JBL speakers. And I don't mean those cute little home cinema-type speakers - we're talking

awesome power

and a high probability of the neighbours calling the police. I've spent all day listening to different kinds of music: Peter Gabriel (a guy who really knows how to use surround sound), Haydn string quartets, Mongolian folk music, Emma Shaplin (opera without the boring bits), Mercan Dede etc. It reminds me of when I was nine years old, and my parents finally noticed I was seriously myopic and got me some glasses - I was walking around thinking "Wow, so this is what seeing is like!"
