From my class journal ....

Last week was pretty unpleasant.  Too much work, illness, bad events at
school and, to finish off with, I lost my temper and shouted at somebody (a
security guard who closed a door in my face), which is something I have done
very rarely and always feel ashamed of.*

Fortunately, things are back to normal and I feel a bit happier.  I haven't
had the relaxing weekend I was hoping for (lots of Political Literacy essays
to correct!), but I got some useful things done, notably cleaning the kitchen
(which had enough oil attached to it to run a car) and doing some editing for
an Afghan women's rights group ( www.rawa.org ).  Actually, I spent more time
correcting their HTML than their English - I'm obsessive about things like
that.

Oh yes, and a few lighter moments ... I didn't manage to do any hapkido
training this week (they keep leaving the gym locked) but I had some good
conversations with various martial arts friends, and Power FM had an attack
of '80s nostalgia, which had me and my wife doing bad '80s dance routines to
Bananarama etc.

The only bad point was in the night - I was having an enjoyable dream about
beating up people in a supermarket, then it turned into this weird scenario
with a "namus davasi"** which involved a bunch of guys kidnapping and raping
Cennet (from Ikinci Bahar)***.  She was wrapped up in a sheet and I was carrying
her up some stairs, not sure if she was dead or alive. Oy oy oy!

Apart from that, not a bad weekend.

* with the exception of a taxi driver who nearly killed me on Tunus Caddesi -
I didn't just shout at him, I hit his car.  I didn't feel ashamed but it was
still silly.  Confucius, he say: "when hand meet metal, metal win."
** "Honour feud", a charming Kurdish tradition where if you have a feud with anothwer family, you kidnap one of their daughters and rape her. You then send her back wrapped up in the sheet (stained with her blood) so that her father will have to kill her to preserve tha family's honour.
*** Ikinci Bahar ("Second Spring") was an excellent Turkish soap opera. Cennet was a character I had a soft spot for - a high-school girl who was really aggressive and kept beating up boys.
