Brain in a vat

Just been reading some amusing stuff, The Geek's Guide to Practical Brain Chemistry. Some of it was ill-informed or oversimplified (as various posted comments pointed out), but interesting all the time. I'm thinking of referring students on my "happiness" course to it, partly because a lot of them know virtually nothing about brains, partly because it's a good example ofhow a paper can be criticised.

Now I've got to get some chocolate and boost my anandamides. Is that the kind of pop psychopharmacology posters were criticising, I wonder? And does "anandamide" come from Sanskrit ananda?

I normally save my factual questions for mailing lists, but none of ones I'm subscribed to seem relevant to these, so I'll see what the combined knowledge and goodwill of my LJ friends can achieve.

  1. Are there any nice CSS tricks that will do something interesting to a graphical link on a mouseover (i.e. the graphic equivalent to "hover")?

  2. On a UNIX account, is there any way to set my .forward list so that, when people receive forwarded mail, the "From:" field is filled by the address of the account, not the sender?

  3. How do you make the batter for Chinese prawn/chicken/whatever balls come out both thick and fluffy?

My guess is that Arya can answer all three.

Want to eat this!!
