I'm in LOTR heaven.

We've finally got round to seeing The Return of the King, after Nalan decided it was time to overcome her fear of enclosed, crowded spaces, and I'm still reeling. OK, like Tolkien fans worldwide, I was annoyed that they cut the Scouring of the Shire, but apart from that, it was awesome. Before the first film came out, I didn't think any film could do justice to Tolkien, but they pretty much pulled it off. Almost every scene is exactly how I visualised it when reading the book. Even Eowyn reminds me of how I saw her when I had a massive crush on her at age eight!

It's been over 25 years since I last read the book, but as far as I remember, she did go into battle and was wounded by a Nazgul. That's how she wound up getting it together with Faramir, while they were convalescing, though that part was skipped over in the film. I don't remember the actual dialogue during the fight, though - I doubt that anyone faced with a Black Rider would bother to take time to debate the gender issue.
