Christmas was pretty much another normal day, not that I really minded. We had the option to cancel classes, but it would have involved giving make-up lessons, so I didn't bother. Many of my studetns, though, had other ideas, assuming that since I was foreign and therefore Christian, I wouldn't show up. This resulted in only three students turning up to my first-year class, so we just chatted about Dune for a while, then I sent them home. My second-years were quorate, but it was hardly a taxing lesson - I just looked at a chapter from Machiavelli's Discourses, waffled about Roman history and asked leading questions about oligarchic reactions to plebean power (Chile etc.). That's the joy of Socratic method - ask the right questions and you can get any answer you want ;-)
