If George Lucas had made "Revolutions"
Saturday, November 15th, 2003 10:43 pmThose of you who still haven't seen Revolutions should take my word that it is much better than most of the reviews claim. Obviously no film can please anyone, and any film which is second or later in a series has the hard task of living up to the reputation of its predecessors. However, I can't help thinking that most of the negative reviews were by people who weren't that into the other films and forgot that it is the third part of a three-part story (like The Return of the King) and not just another film in a series (like Mad Max III). Most of the rest seemed to be by people who were so caught up by the first two films that they had already decided exactly what should be in the third, and were outraged when the Wachowski brothers turned out to have different ideas.
The question I asked myself at moments when I had doubts about the film was "How, given the technical and plot constraints, would I have done it differently?" In fact, although there were a few points I would have done differently, I think most of the film simply couldn't have been done any other way, at least if you're a Wachowski brother and not George Lucas.
If George Lucas had made Revolutions ...

If George Lucas had made Revolutions ...
- Trinity would not have died
- Neo and Trinity would have been married in the Zion Temple by Morpheus
- Smith would turn out to be Neo's father.
- Rather than being absorbed into the Source, Neo would have found a weak spot and destroyed its power supply, causing all the squids (who have no backup) to to close down.
- When Neo is blinded, he would hear the voice of the Oracle saying "Trust the Force, Neo."
- Sati would come out with annoying homilies like "I think the biggest problem in the Matrix is that no one helps anyone any more."
- When the war ends, the victory celebrations would go on for ages, with music, streamers etc..
- Our heroes would be accompanied by a comic AI
