robinturnerToday when one of my students' cell phones went off in class, I supressed my usual irritation and said "Operator, I need a line out."
I've been trying all evening to post the first two chapters of my course book on the website, for the benefit of students who couldn't get it because the photocopying machine is broken. Every time I tried to upload it I got error messages along the lines of "unexpected broken pipe". Oh well, when they complain tomorrow that they couldn't find the page, I have the perfect excuse:
"They cut the hard line."
